Out with Friends & the Staff

I was lucky to land a job working for good people and I've made many friends in Korea (Koreans and Westerners alike). My boss and his family take us places like museums and out to eat every now and then.

I've met most all the other teachers in town and we get together on weekends and sometimes travel to Seoul together.

I'm a minority in a minority in a minority here. I'm a foreigner; I'm the only American in town, and I'm the oldest person in my crowd...by far. I'm not just a little bit older than most of my friends--I'm a generation older. I'd be considered older if I were thirty.

I like all the friends I've made here--a bunch of good mates for sure. It's funny because when you meet someone in your home country and they're from Europe or Australia, or wherever that you're not from, you may pause and think to yourself: oh from over there uh...interesting. But living abroad, in contrast, the minute you meet someone from an English speaking country, it's if as they were your next door neighbor growing up.

Friends by default somewhat,  but that's a bit clinical in terminology. We all  stick together here and make the best of it and have a good time when we're not horribly bored out of our gourds.

Anyway, here's a short video with some still shots of dinner out with the staff eating some traditional Korean food.
